NABHA FORT CRIES FOR HELP

NABHA FORT CRIES FOR HELP
Why this petition matters
The Quila of Nabha was founded in 18th cent by Raja Hamir Singh and was locate din the heart of walled city . The Fort was built over the period of 150 yrs. The Kara ,Safa , Kurta, Kanga and Kesh were kept in the highest burj of The Nabha Fort and access to darshan was open to public – This was one of attributes of intangible historical and cultural significance of the fort.
The ignorance and apathy towards role of Nabha in Sikh history is mind bogling , Maharaja Ripudaman Singh , whose support for nationalist movements ,for Sikh marriage act and for Akalis was cited as reasons for his abdication and taken to Kodaikanal as a state prisoner in Feb 1928.
With so much given to Sikh History by Nabha state today the very historical structures where this history was knitted today lies in state of despair. Overall , The Nabha Fort is suffering from a hogh degree of structural distress – masonry cracks, vegetation growth bulging , collapse of roofs . Other issues include vandalism , collection of debris .
Needs emergency stabilization to prevent further damage to prevent further damage.
In todays time when people of city travel 100s of km to Rajasthan to see similar structures which are neglected in their own vicinity, completely unaware of artistic work of kangra style painting and one rare painting depicting Maharaja Ranjit SINGH OF Lahore .
Last restoration work was taken up during the year of 2012 , for a short period after which it was stopped for unknown reasons . In 2007 state govt decided to lease out comples for a period of 66 yrs to Nabha Foundation . A PIL was lodged against the decision . In final verdict the THE Punjab High Court was of view that public private partnership for conservation and sensitive reuse of historic buildings was important and hence endorsed this initiative between the Government of Punjab and Nabha Foundation. But no progress is seen from last 6yrs except a guard sitting outside from morning to evening.
