It is one of the few large open spaces available to citizens in the city

Save the Mahalaxmi Racecourse from land sharks and other vested interests
The is a move by some political parties and some activists to discontinue the lease of the Mahalaxmi Race Course. In our opinion this is a very dangerous and unwise demand. We know that whenever open spaces are managed by the municipality or the government in our city, the space is quickly occupied either by homeless people, land sharks or other vested interests who use it for their private purpose. At present the RWITC which controls the Mahalaxmi Race Course has maintained the land and made it availbale fo the public outside racing hours. In fact thousands of citizens use it everday morning and evening just like a public garden. If the lease is not renewed we are afraid that the open space which is so precious to the city will be permanently lost.
