Delhi Transport Corporation is responsible for operating most of the public bus service in Delhi. Millions of commuters are dependent on it for their daily commute The quality of the service both in terms frequency and condition of buses has been declining especially in the last few years. DTC buses have become increasingly unreliable and seem to follow no known schedule. It’s erratic and unpredictable. Drivers and conductors take no responsibility for this and the commuters do not know whom to address their grievances. Even at bus terminals commuters are not informed about the schedule.
As citizens of Delhi, it’s our right to have a reliable and efficient bus service. It’s our demand that DTC becomes accountable and more responsible in running its services. For this we demand that DTC install GPS based a public information display system on all its bus stands informing the commuters about arrival of buses. This is essential for Delhi citizens as it greatly affects our quality of life for which a good public transport is a must.
Further the system should be monitored closely and buses tracked for their schedule, break down etc. This will help make DTC which runs on public money accountable for its services.
According to an RTI reply (Ref RTI/PIO/(HQ)2015/0014673/2076 ) "The concept is under consideration. The concept of providing the facilities of passenger information system regarding arrival of buses at each bus stop till date is not finalised" The reply was dated 23.09.2015. So far DTC has made no public commitment to the issue. We demand that DTC commissions such a system at the earliest and comes up with a schedule for doing so.
