Hon’ble Sir / Madam,
I would like to inform you that Orang National Park known as mini Kaziranga Park worldwide for its flora and fauna and one horned Rhinocerous has great potential to appoint many unemployed youths. It was declared game reserve in 1915 and subsequently wildlife sanctuary in 1985. In 1992, the park was named "Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary" but it was hold off due to public pressure. The sanctuary was declared National Park in 1999 with a total area of about 78.81 square km and named which is why it is officially called "Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park".
Sir/Madam, as mentioned earlier the people of the locality and wildlife lovers, naturalists and the people of Darrang district are not happy with this name and they demand for revearsal of the name.
Sir/Madam, the park has a chequered history of habitation. Till 1900, it was inhabited by the local tribes. On account of an epidemic disease, the tribal population abandoned the area. On the other hand, the former Prime Minister of India had not related to this National Park.
Therefore, I request you kindly to take necessary steps for reversal of the name for which entire people of Darrang and Udalguri district will remain grateful to you.
Thanking you for anticipation,
Mukut Chandra Nath
