As everyone may remember David Cretney MLC wrote to the Chief Minister on 29 November 2017 suggesting the need for a Champion for the Elderly just as there are 'Champions for Young People', 'diversity', and the 'armed forces'.
Now, David has offered to take on this role just as the other Champions and at no, NO cost to Government or the taxpayer.
David received a reply on 19 December 2017 and will be 'attached' below. In short, the Government position remains against as a Member of the Department of Health and Social Care, the very Department that is, in his opinion, putting forward detrimental proposals affecting older people has this role. It should also be a "cross-department role" as David sees it... David also recently asked the Chief Secretary whether he considered the same Department were complying with the Government code on consultation in issues, such as the incontinence pads removal or meals on wheels withdrawal of support; both of which he believes to be policy changes.
The response from Government is that these are not policy changes ....rather they are "operational matters" and as such, they do not have to consult even though correspondence from the very same Department refers to " policy!" You really couldn't make it up! The Chief Minister does not think a Champion for the Elderly is needed, David thinks this is wrong! If you agree and feel the Elderly should, then please vote and share this link with every person you know. Protect the Elderly!
