CM SHRI KHATTAR & HARYANA CABINET: HAVE PUBLIC CONSULTATION BEFORE RENAMING GURGAON

This petition had 873 supporters

In 2012, a committee was set up to look at a proposal from the Councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon to change the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram. Evidence of public consultation – Not in public domain.

In 2014, Councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon passed a resolution to change the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram. Evidence of public consultation – Not in public domain.

In 2016, the Chief Minister of Haryana approved the change of name from Gurgaon to Gurugram. Evidence of public consultation – Not in public domain.

This for an issue that lies at the heart of any person’s identity. Today, I am a resident of Gurgaon. Tomorrow, without any consultation, my identity is changed.

This for a country that is a democracy, where the citizen and his/her views must drive government action. Yet, action is taken without evident consultation.

WE NEED PUBLIC CONSULTATION BEFORE APPROVAL OF HARYANA CABINET ON THIS MATTER.

WHAT WE NEED:

1.     CM makes voting on this matter possible on CM Office website and through phone/mobile

2.     District administration organizes stakeholder feedback from RWAs, Corporate houses, Industry Associations, Citizen Associations, educational institutions etc.

3.     All results are made transparent and published

4.       Haryana Cabinet makes decision based on results.
