Chief Justice of India: Take Suo- Moto Cognizance of brutal police action and false cases
On 22nd and 23rd of December 2012, Delhi Police has violently attacked peaceful protestors at India Gate and surrounding areas with use of water cannons, tears gas and lathi charge.
Hundreds of young girls, boys, and elderly citizens got injured and it was recorded by all the national and international media present there.
There are several videos and photographs available on social media too that suggest that Police was brutal, insensitive and determined to crush this peaceful protest with use of violence.
For next two days, Police has not only denied people's right to protest peacefully but has also detained several women and men for several hours at Mandir Marg and Tilak Marg Police stations. Some women at Mandir Marg station were kept detained even till late evening and were beaten and thrashed by male police constables.
Evidences for these incidents are easily accessible on social media.
As if this was not enough, Police has also arrested eight young boys under "attempt to murder" case as one of the constables got admitted to hospital due to cardiac arrest.
There are eyewitnesses to the incident interviewed by all national channels, and it is very clear that Police has not only wrongly arrested these 8 young boys but has also tried to cook up false case against these boys and other protestors.
An immediate intervention by highest court is needed to save eight innocent lives and to protect people's right to protest peacefully.
