Shut down the Canidrome, the world's deadliest greyhound racetrack.

383. This is the number of dogs that were killed in one year at Macau’s infamous greyhound racing track, the Yat Yuen Canidrome. That’s more than one dog every day. Many are destroyed for underperforming; those lucky enough to win their races meet a different fate -- fatal injury or illness due to the deplorable conditions they’re forced to live in.

I run an animal rescue organization called ANIMA here in Macau, an island off the coast of mainland China, and the carnage that takes place at the Canidrome is a source of deep sadness and shame for me. But now there is hope! I’m working with U.S.-based greyhound advocacy group GREY2K USA Worldwide to convince the government of Macau to permanently end this horrific animal abuse. Can you help us?

Tell Macau to close the Canidrome racetrack, where every single greyhound either dies from terrible injuries, or is killed for running too slowly.

And before they die, these greyhounds suffer terribly. On just one racing day recently, greyhounds at the Canidrome suffered torn muscles, cuts, infections, and one dog named “Speed Baby” had his stomach twisted more than 180 degrees during a race. He later died from an intestinal rupture.

Macau's leaders care a lot about how the rest of the world sees them. More than half of the island’s economy — and 70% of the government’s revenue — comes from international tourism.  If the world speaks up against the Canidrome’s outdated and barbaric treatment of these animals, Macau's government has to listen.

There’s a reason the Yat Yuen Canidrome is the only remaining greyhound racetrack in all of Asia. Other countries have woken up to the horrendous abuse involved in this pastime, and they’ve decided not to stand for it. Please help me call on the government of Macau to join them and make the humane choice to end greyhound racing here, too.

Sign my petition, and help stop the Canidrome racetrack from racing hundreds of greyhounds to death each year.

Truly,

Albano Martins
President, Anima Macau
