We ;  the undersigned are concerned about a serious issue regarding access from the end of old Island Hwy which faces the entrance to walmart.

A security fence was put up without a gateway which completely restricts access.

Many have:

1- Physical  disabilities

2- Compromised health issues which limit their activity.

3- restricted driving privileges or no vehicle.

4- Children that are  just learning to navigate on their own.

5-  Friends or relatives that run errands on foot or bike.

We;

As Band members; we received no respective information, notified meetings or voting privileges regarding the design or construction of this fence .

Some of us find it difficult to adapt to the unannounced Closure .

We can no longer take this short walk to maintain independent Mobility.

Due to the increased crime and drug abuse in our City ; many of us do not feel safe walking along 16th Avenue  in the evening especially if it's dark.

We need a properly designed path wide enough for mobility scooters to get through as well as a gradual slope so it is safe for all members.

We strongly believe this request is detrimental for our needs , safety and well being.

We as band members  should have been respectively informed and had the opportunity to voice our ideas for this security fencing.

A sliding pocket style gate on wheels would be ideal combined with a locking mechanism for after Walmarts closing hour  to keep our land and homes safe throughout the night.

I'm sure that walmart would share the cost to  maintain the recovery of lost customers due to this obstacle we are presently up against.

We trust you will actuate yourself and your council to accomplish this request.
