Why this petition matters

Started by Elizabeth Escobar

Chick-fil-A is a popular fast food chain that continues to use polystyrene (also known as styrofoam) to create their drink containers. Styrofoam is appealing to large corporations because it is lightweight and cheap, however these companies are not considering the harms that polystyrene has on our environment in the long run.

Researchers have suggested that polystyrene may be a carcinogen, which is known to cause cancer. So, on top of the fact that this material persists in our environment for hundreds of years, and sometimes never biodegrades, it is affecting our physical health as well.

There are plenty of other options besides polystyrene to create food containers, therefore an easily replaceable material should not continue to cause fatal harm to our sea animals and to ourselves.

As one of the largest fast food companies, it is time for Chick-Fil-A to join other corporations in discontinuing their use of polystyrene and to prioritize our environment by creating containers out of 100% recyclable materials.
