Chicana/o & Latinx dept. demand the immediate replacement of Dr. PriscillaFalcons position
Why this petition matters
The Dept. of Chicana/o & Latinx studies demand that The University of Northern Colorado hire an assistant tenure track faculty to replace Dr. Priscilla Falcons position. After 27 years Dr. Falcon will be retiring from UNC, however the Dean Of Humanities and Social Sciences along with the administration here at UNC have denied the request for a replacement hire. This request will not require additional resources and is a clear attempt by the university to dismantle Chicana/o & Latinx studies. This has been a continual pattern, in 2015 the Justice Department was called in to resolve conflictive relationships between the university administration and Chicana/o & Latinx studies. Several years later Dean Connolly of Humanities and Social Sciences dislocated and removed the Chicana/o & Latinx studies office causing disruption to our unit. Despite the actions over the years including the lack of resources Chicana/o & Latinx studies has continued to thrive due to the dedication of brown student and faculty.
