We believe that it is far too short to be able to bond with your newborn, heal completely and adjust to a new baby in the span of 6 weeks. That is not including the sick days that mothers and fathers have to add in order to get a longer stay. Throughout the years of our CPS school, many of our teachers went on maternity and paternity leave. Recently, 2 of our main teachers have returned back to work from leave with no comments. That was until we performed a survey.

We have found that the average length of leave was 6 weeks with payment. If you wanted a longer leave, you would have to add in your sick days in order to still get paid. Teachers also stated that if you have a baby in the summer, you get no maternity leave. You would have to use up your banked sick days in order to spend time with your newborn baby! Many educators also agreed on the fact that gender has plenty to do with the length of the stay. Mothers typically have a longer leave than fathers which is not fair nor equal. People who leave for paternity leave, need just as much time to adjust to a new baby and help their partner. Parents shouldn’t feel rushed to return back to work nor have to use their sick days to be able to bond with their child!
