You are facing a very real threat, and we need your help to stop it. The Chicago City Council wants to pass the “Fair Workweek Ordinance,” which will make temporary work in Chicago almost impossible. The ordinance, which we have dubbed the “UNFair Workweek Ordinance,” will also make it nearly impossible for Chicago companies to hire temporary staff. Similar legislation across the country makes an exemption for temporary staffing…Chicago’s doesn’t! There is nothing fair about that. Pleases sign this petition to ask Chicago’s Aldermen to exempt temporary staffing from the Fair Workweek Ordinance.

The ordinance takes away all flexibility in temporary staff scheduling by requiring advance notice of any changes to staff schedules up to two weeks in advance!

  • What if you’re a student who picks up a last-minute weekend temp job on a Friday to afford books on Monday?
  • What if unexpected weather cancels your outdoor job and you want to pick up a shift somewhere else?

WHAT’S UNFAIR? REQUIRING COMPANIES TO CONTACT EVERY SINGLE EXISTING EMPLOYEE BEFORE HIRING TEMPS

The ordinance will require companies to contact and offer work to all existing employees—before hiring any temporary staff.
