Due to Covid19 restaurants and bars had been hit hard financially. Rahm Emmanuel's administration changed the payment of the liquor and retail licenses to be payable every two years years which in many cases required a disbursement of more than $6,000 per business plus the cost of insurance. Although Mayor Lori Lightfoot has extended the date of renewal to January 31, 2021, which is great, the cost of it has not been adjusted forcing many businesses to look into loans and costly financial alternatives that are not feasible with the temporary closing of so many businesses.

This petition is to request the renewal/payment of these licenses to be adjusted, temporarily, to a 1 year payment instead of two, with the option of divide such payment in two installments. This is a decision that could be resolved in the monthly City Council meeting. This could benefits many businesses to remain open during and after the lockdowns due to Covid19.

My family has owned a Mom and Pops restaurant for 32 years at the Humboldt Park Community, which has survived recessions and gentrification. We are also surviving though COVID thanks to our friends, clients and our community but we are only selling a third of our regular sales. This petition will helps many family businesses to remain open.
