Chicago Against Violence

As of an article written on June 16th, 2012, Chicago homicides from January-June 2012 alone had surpassed the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan. As the summer continued, the merciless killings did as well. The city always replies in press statements that something will be done, and they express their sincerest apologies. I know they truly mean their apologies to the families and the people affected whenever there is an increase in violent events. However, the deaths have been escalating at an alarming rate, and we still have not implemented a plan for change. Something needs to be done to save the current generation of Chicago's teens, and create an example for generations to come that no violence will be tolerated. By creating this petition, my hopes are to raise awareness of how serious this issue is for the citizens of Chicago and make our government take action as fast as possible. Whether it's a new youth center or more police officers in designated neighborhoods that need it the most...any sort of change is better than none. Spread the word about the severity of violence in Chicago and suggest plans that the government could create to help our city. Thank you and stay safe.
