Katherine Nikolau started this petition to Cherokee High School students/parents

Cherokee High School during the 2020-21 year has changed significantly due to the global pandemic, something each student can attest to. There have been countless issues for students. Many students are experiencing burdensome financial situations, difficulty handling the illness/death of family members, or even depression and anxiety during this difficult time. To avoid student burnout and to strengthen student mental health, there NEEDS to be an outlet at Cherokee High School where students can voice their opinions to teachers. This proposal suggests a mandatory virtual meeting (at least once per month) where any student can attend and voice their larger concerns to the teachers and principals at Cherokee. Many teachers have also voiced their own concerns about how they are handling teaching in the pandemic. These meetings will give each side an outlet to ask and answer, a place where we can all make Cherokee a positive and not entirely stressful environment to work and learn. These meetings will be student led, with different students “having the floor” to speak professionally and in-depth about issues they are facing. Only with communication can we fix the true issues at Cherokee.
