Jimmy Bouban started this petition to Cherokee County School District

In light of Covid-19, many schools have had to cancel their classes, moving them to an online-based platform.

This has clearly been a very, very stressful time for students, parents, and education staff. Between the complete cancellation of Prom and Field Trips, difficulties transitioning to Canvas on both ends, and more, it is clear that everyone involved is very stressed and confused.

It would be quite unfortunate and disappointing to many of the eager Senior students to be told their graduation must be cancelled. Ergo, I would like to propose a solution that will work for everyone who has a computer.

The Graduation Ceremony of 2020 should be hosted over Minecraft.

This is a perfect solution for every instance. Firstly, each student has access to the game through their Microsoft.net account. This cuts down on accessibility concerns, as all students have the game for free, and most computers- especially computers distributed by the school - can run the game without issues.

Next, Minecraft allows for its users to create anything - including a mock graduation stage or other things of that nature.

Most importantly, Minecraft is incredibly tweakable - administration can host multiple servers to house all graduating students, and can change permissions on these servers to be sure that nothing goes awry.

Minecraft is a beloved game among most of the student body, and students will definitely be willing to come to a virtual graduation in it. In fact, elementary school kids in Japan have already adopted the idea.

As petitioners, we have great hope that the administration of Cherokee County will consider this option for our graduation.

As the author, I would gladly find any way I can to help set up this event if needed - as I am very good with the game - and can be reached at jimmykbouban@gmail.com .

Thank you for reading.
