Renew Dr. Fleetwood's Contract

Renew Dr. Fleetwood's Contract
Why this petition matters

Dr. Fleetwood, one of the most beloved teachers at the Charter School of Wilmington, is under an impending decision of whether his contract will be renewed or not in the coming year. Having worked at the CSW for 18 years, Dr. Fleetwood taught a myriad of classes such as Biology, Anatomy, Neuroscience, Genetics, and even Forensics. Removing him as a teacher would mean removing his funny, infectious personality but most importantly, his will and drive for students to succeed. Previous students spoke about “how his classes help them decide what major they'd pursue and how influential he was.” CSW also holds special meaning to Dr. Fleetwood, being the place “where I met my wife, who is also a teacher at the school.”
Even in one of our most tumultuous years, where CSW has been called under fire by the media, the community here still holds faith in its mission of “providing a challenging college-preparatory curriculum in a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment that integrates practical learning opportunities, sets high expectations, develops social responsibility, and promotes a global perspective” through excellence.
As a testament to Dr. Fleetwood’s persistent duty to teaching, he spoke in a 2013 interview as to what inspired him to teach high school students. This was his answer.
“I suppose that all teachers are at least a little bit crazy and eternal optimists as we return each year in the fall to do it all over again :-) I suppose my inspiration would be that I would like the world to be a better place tomorrow than it is today and if I can help create that through these young men and women then that will be a life worthy of living. I also tell them that I want to live just long enough to live forever, so they should really get on solving that problem. Who knows, one of them just might.”
