Charlton Selectboard: Please rescind VGG 5/15/18 Letter of Non-Opposition & Host Agreement

On May 15, 2018, the Charlton Board of Selectmen voted to send a letter of non-opposition and in favor of a host community agreement with Valley Green Grow to build a 1,000,000 to 3,000,000 square foot industrial greenhouse facility, cultivation center, processing space, and retail dispensary of medical and adult use recreational marijuana products at Charlton Orchards (44 Old Worcester Road, Charlton MA).
This project is likely the largest marijuana processing facility in North America. Charlton Orchards is located in a neighborhood with over 25 residential abutters and in close proximity to three schools. Abutters were not notified in advance of the BOS meeting, and the posted BOS meeting agenda was sufficiently vague that citizens were unaware of the content of the meeting. There were no public hearings held in advance of the vote.
Due to the shoddy process undertaken and the overwhelmingly residential location of the industrial size project, we respectfully request the Charlton Board of Selectmen rescind their letter of non-objection and host community agreement for Valley Green Grow.
