We Want a Black Student Union at Charlottesville High School

Hi, our names are  Zyahna and Keshawna and we are 9th grade students at Charlottesville High School in Charlottesville, Va. We were both very excited about bringing our ideas to the table, and to start a new club. Over the past year we have been looking closely at the issue surrounding the achievement gap, police brutality, and the Black lives matter movement. All of these things do affect us as black students in America, and we want to make a change. We refuse to give up because our peers have supported us in this endeavor and we know that they want a Black Student Union at CHS, we will not stop until we give them what they want.

Here at Charlottesville High School we hear the students!  We are not making this group to exclude anyone in any way, we are simply starting the initiative to empower the Black student body and to educate the student population in Charlottesville on issues dealing with social injustices and racial inequity (such as Police Brutality, the achievement gap, politics, etc.,) We need support from students and members of the community to put pressure on the Administration to help us create this organization. With all that is currently going on right now, it is clear that African- American students need a safe space to talk about Black issues, current events, plan events, and participate in community organizing and service projects. Our three objectives are community service, current events, and professional development. We need your support! Stand with us!
