Dawn Swierski started this petition to Charlotte Mecklenburg District Attorney and

We are the Swierski’s ~ Scott, Dawn and Riley.  Our son Jonathan was killed on July 6th, 2019 by a shotgun blast to the chest at very close range.  The killer has confessed but has not been charged with a crime.  He is free to live his life without any consequences for his actions.  And he is still permitted to own and carry a firearm.

The Matthews Police Dept. and the Charlotte Mecklenburg DA’s office have concluded their investigation.  They have ruled Jonathan's death an ACCIDENT!We had a follow up meeting with the District Attorney for Mecklenburg County, Spencer Merriweather and this is what he stated:

Based on the evidence that was discovered, there is not enough information to charge Jonathan’s killer with a crime.  You must be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Jonathan’s death was indeed a homicide. In their opinion, they are convinced Jonathan was killed on accident.  Keep in mind, that his killer went to his car, took out a shotgun, loaded the gun with 2 bullets, racked the gun, put his finger on the trigger and walked back to the area where Jonathan was, (a total of 50 ft. back and forth, giving him ample time to think about what he was doing). Within seconds, Jonathan was shot in the heart and died almost immediately.  He never had a chance to survive, the injuries were far too severe.

The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner Dr. Jonathan Privette ruled his death a homicide (not at all an accident).  But still, no one wants to charge the killer with any type of crime.

This is not an outcome that we can live with, Jonathan deserves more than that.  His killer needs to be held accountable for taking his life.  If this can happen to us, then it can happen to you!

We have started this petition in hopes of gaining attention to our plea for justice.  Please sign and share with all your family and friends.  Jonathan Swierski’s life mattered and its up to us to make sure it does!
