Vote "No" on the sale of land at Eastland to CMS for School

Vote "No" on the sale of land at Eastland to CMS for School

The Issue

The Charlotte City Council is scheduled to vote to Sell 11.5 acres at Eastland to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for a K-8 public school.
Community input, city studies and the Economic Development Dept have overwhelmingly identified the need for Economic Development to be the focus of the Eastland site. The Economic Development Committee has diverted from that goal and recommended that City Council vote to approve the sale for a school.
The school concept will have a negative impact on the Eastland site and the community around it. The need for an Economic Driver at Eastland is imperative.
It is inevitable that the school will limit future development options and stunt Economic Development.

Planning Committee - Wrote a strongly worded letter to the Mayor & City Council recommending against the sale, citing the incongruance with previous plans, and unavoidable result of very limited, very simplistic development & lack of Economic Development in the Eastland area.
County Commission - Criticized the school plan, cited the lack of Economic Development and lack of city investment, and opted not to fund a park that is part of the school plan.
