Maggie Lengemann started this petition to Charlotte City Council

Background: A plot of land is being redeveloped into townhomes in our neighborhood. The current plan has 131 townhomes. The developer is TriPointe Homes & they have been receptive to community suggestions but their request for an exception to the Levy Street stub has been denied. Below are the reasons we need to come together to encourage City Council to reconsider.

We would like city council to grant the stub street exception (connecting the existing end of Levy to the new townhome develpment via a walkway instead of vehicular street). The walkway instead of street is vital for the neighborhood for the following reasons;

1. Levy as a through-street is dangerous for children. It is not likely the new townhome residents will use Levy as it comes back around to Commonwealth and it won’t reduce traffic. The other option put forward by the developers, if the Levy Street stub exception is granted, is to develop through to Monroe Road instead. The Monroe Road entrance, on the other hand, would be vital as it would alleviate traffic on Commonwealth at the Oakhurst STEAM Academy.

2. Levy as a through-street is enviornmentally unhealthy. The land at the end of the Levy Stub is wetlands and environmentally sensitive. We (Oakhurst) are losing much green space at a rapid rate. It is important to preserve these wetlands.

3. Levy as a through street is detrimental to city water flow. The city solved a flooding problem at the bottom of Crater Street and connecting the stub could cause the flooding problem to resurface.
