Lex Powers started this petition to Philadelphia Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Sustainability Charlotte Castle

This is a petition of support for a proposed "Neighborhood Slow Zone" in Northern Liberties - East Poplar (bound by 5th Street to the east, Spring Garden Street to the south, 9th Street to the west, and Girard Avenue to the north). Speeding on residential streets is a common concern from neighbors living across the city. That's especially true in our neighborhood, which has a history of traffic calming efforts on more than one street, with mixed success.

Instead of responding to complaints and installing traffic calming one block at a time, the Neighborhood Slow Zone Program invited neighbors to apply for traffic calming in an entire zone of residential streets. The city will work hand-in-hand with successful applicants to bring traffic calming to an entire "Slow Zone." Now is the time to look at our neighborhood holistically, and help create an environment that is safe and enjoyable for everyone. If you live in this zone, please sign here to indicate your support for our application

I agree and understand that the Neighborhood Slow Zone will:

  •  Include posted speed limits of 20MPH;
  • Install corner clearances within 20’ of some crosswalks, preventing people from parking here;
  • Include speed cushions and other tools to manage driver speeds;
  • Require that traffic calming be kept installed for least five years of installation;

And I am supportive of a Neighborhood Slow Zone in my neighborhood: Northern Liberties-East Poplar!
