We the people of Middle Sound and surrounding areas want to make our disappointment known about Fermental being pushed out of its current location in favor of a “Take 5 Oil Change”.  We can find a more distant location to have our oil changed, but we do not want to find a more distant location to enjoy the friendly activities available at Fermental.

We favor Fermental remaining in its current location because:

|1> Fermental has become a relaxed family- and dog-friendly place where people congregate to enjoy conversation while having beer, wine, and other refreshments.

|2> Fermental remains the last vestige of “Old Ogden”.  The beer garden is shaded with real trees and is not covered with concrete, and the establishment is housed in a real house, hence, its ability to relieve us of the bustle of Wilmington’s rapid growth.

|3> Fermental has the most extensive selection of craft beer in the Wilmington area and one of the most diverse in the state.  If there is something Fermental does not have that you desire, then the owner and proprietor, Steve Gibbs, will do his best to get it for you.  You will not find better service or prices anywhere.

|4> Fermental’s modest number of only six beer taps has a greater variety of fine beers for reasonable prices as compared to other large establishments with ten times as many taps.

|5> Fermental won the “Best Beer Bar” in the state of North Carolina as awarded by the Brewer’s Association as part of their annual “Great American Beer Bars” list for the above reasons.

|6> Fermental is a local Cultural Center for Art & Science.  Local musicians and musical groups entertain weekly.  Seasonal Events include: “Arts and Drafts” where locals showcase their arts and crafts; “Bachtoberfest” with the Tallis Chamber Orchestra; “Family Funk Day” acts as a musical showcase for local schools and music academies; “Fundraisers” for Toys for Tots, Skywatch Bird Rescue, and local food banks such as Nourish NC.  Santa has even made appearances at family events.  Celestial Events such as Lunar Eclipses and Planetary Conjunctions can be enjoyed with telescopic equipment from the UNC Wilmington Physics Department and those of Fermental patrons.

The only power we the Undersigned have to thwart Charlotte-based Durban Development from this ill-advised change to our Middle Sound Community is to pledge that we will not give our business to “Take 5 Oil Change” or any other establishment that would replace our favored Fermental:
