Make happy hours legal in Massachusetts
Happy hour is currently illegal in Massachusetts, that should not be the case. It was originally banned in 1984 because of a car accident in Braintree. It's now 2020, public transportation is available and Uber as well as Lyft are a click away from our phones allowing everyone to get to their destination safely and for an affordable price.
Happy hour could be what once again jumpstarts not only the restaurant/bar industry, but also alleviates the financial deficit the commonwealth will have because of COVID.
While drinks can be made substantially cheaper at bars and restaurants helping fuel consumption and increase revenue for local businesses, the Commonwealth could increase its taxes on happy hour consumption by an additional 1-2%. With these additional funds, the Commonwealth can allocate capital to repairing roads, financing the T, and even helping those who have been affected by the opioid crisis.
This should be a bi-partisan solution to current day problems to help Americans get back to work and solve our state's financial situation.
