On September 13th 2018 the Department is seeking to decrease civilian access to all correctional facilities through a series of proposed regulations. These regulations brakedown the family unit and community ties that an inmate will need to rely on to sucessfully re-enter society. These proposed changes consist of : an imposition of a list for each security level prison to limit visitors to 5 - maximum, 8- medium, 10- minimum ; a reduction of 5 visitors at a time to 2 adults; vistors that have more than 1 friend that is incarcerated at prisons can only visit 1 unless 1 is a relative; The exercise of reasons to barr for non visitation infractions such as 3 way calling or 3 way mailing letters or money transactions to common friends. These regulations were rescinded by former governor Devoll Patrick as inconsistent with the goals of the visitation program. Yet they have found support under the current Governors administration. We ask for support to urge the Governor to rescind these regulations or to commit your vote this election for changes that benefit all citizens.
