Us children's health are at risk. Online school should be discussed as an option for students who feel at risk going to in-person school. Over 1 million cases in Massachusetts, & 500k cases a day in the United States. Many families do not feel safe with their children attending school, with most schools containing over 1000 students. No one knows who has been where, & who they surround themselves with. Online school would benefit many students & families in multiple ways. Many students who get COVID & don't have symptoms, are still not able to do schoolwork, even though they don't feel sick. Other students, who in the 2 weeks+ of having COVID, symptoms minimize as time goes on, & even though they are not sick to an extent where they can't do school, they still are unable due to carrying a very contagious virus. 2 weeks of school, education, & work missed due to COVID, where this could be avoided with the option of Online School. Symptoms & COVID itself could take up to 5 days to appear in your system, meaning that just because I test negative, doesn't mean I don't carry the virus. This shows that testing us students and staff before going to school doesn't guarantee that COVID won't be spread. Many students don't feel safe going into school, & surrounding themselves with others knowing they could walk out of school with COVID. What exactly is everyones plan for this? Adults want us students to be in school to be able to interact with our peers, but because COVID cases have increased severely, Lunch is likely to be cancelled, which is the only time we could talk to our peers without talking about work. Everyones home life is different. Many students could live with an elderly family member. Forcing kids to attend school, & collect germs, which could then be spread to their elderly family members, causing them to become very sick could be prevented with the option of online school. I understand many students feel comfortable & do better in in-person school, which is why it should be available as an option. But for us students who prefer online school, it should become an option as well. Overall with the help of others, we can keep children & families safe while also getting an education. Signing this petition would allow us students have a say in our educational & health lives. Thank you.
