North Charleston citizens deserve the same school choice options available to Charleston Country Residents in Mount Pleasant, Downtown, and West Ashley.
Residents of Park Circle overwhelmingly support this option as a way to promote School Choice and close the achievement gap.
Hursey is surrounded by 4 other traditional schools within a few miles that have higher ratings than Hursey, so families seeking a traditional education environment will not be slighted.
We, the undersigned, ask the CCSD Board of Education to bring full Montessori partial magnet education to Malcolm C. Hursey Elementary School.
We believe that offering school choices such as Montessori will help our underperforming schools as well as create diverse classrooms and stimulating learning environments.
We believe that this is in the best interest of the school as a majority of parents at Hursey have supported this effort.
We believe that this move will benefit the school by increasing parent and community involvement.
We believe that bringing this option to North Charleston will bring young families back to public education that would otherwise consider private schooling or home schooling.
We ask for your thoughtful consideration in promoting diversity in education across the ENTIRE district, and bringing school choice to North Charleston in the same manner that it has been implemented in other areas around the district.
