It has been used to alienate descendants from their lands- selling the illusion to those “from off” that gates and walls were needed to protect them from the “byn heres”. The use of “plantation” as a marketing ploy while contributing to taxing locals off their land is systemic oppression. The amount of wealth disparity created by the residential “plantation” model exacerbates the intentional cycle of poverty. “Essentials” are hired at low paying jobs. The use of plantation is systemic racism by definition.
