On 20 August 2019 Carlton Gate Admiral Walk canal-side garden was locked for construction of six houseboats. The permission for construction was obtained by the landowner Charles Rifkind in July 2016 in a very discreet manner;  notification letters were sent only to half of 480+ apartments at Carlton Gate. The other flats at Carlton Gate have never been notified, even though this garden is for the whole Carlton Gate community.

Permission has been granted on the basis that development had started during the 3 year period from 26.07.2016. The development started on 20 August 2019 when the period granted has already expired making this construction illegal.

The leaseholders of Carlton Gate apartments have been paying ground rent and service charge for this garden for 28 years. The garden that is used by the whole Carlton Gate community will become back garden for six houseboats, block access to the canal, destroy wildlife, compromise the security. Our kids won’t be able to play there and will be left with concrete parking space as their play area. This construction will generate more profits to one person at the cost of the whole Carlton Gate community.

We are requesting Charles Rifkind and other developers to stop construction of the houseboats in our communal garden area
