The word "Backcountry" is not own-able. It is much larger and has far more meaning than the brand Backcountry.com.  We the people who pursue the backcountry, the community that exists as the entire basis of your business model, request that you immediately cease and desist legal actions against the use of the word that exemplifies our actions and the places that define our community.  We consider your actions and intent egregious.  If you decide not to rethink your actions, which we consider harmful to the community that you claim to serve we will do the following: (1) Boycott Backcountry.com, (2) Petition the manufacturers of backcountry gear to stop using you as a sales channel, (3) Petition the US Patent Office to reverse their decision, (4) Create a GoFundMe sight to fund legal action to have the USPTO recognize backcountry as a generic term therefore nullifying your trademark.

The list above is in order of increasing actions.  Starting first and effective immediately all persons signing this petition agree to cease purchasing any items from Backcountry.com.  This boycott will remain in effect until you make a public statement that you recant your position on the word.

The future actions will be deployed in 3 month intervals as required.  All petition signers will be notified each time a new action is required.
