Georgia Kazteridis started this petition to Mayor of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio

Mass incarceration is a form of modern day slavery. Under the 13th Amendment, slavery was abolished, except as a form of punishment for a crime. For this reason, sentencing for nonviolent crimes are excessive and unfair and purposely target minorities who are sent to prisons for offenses such as petty theft, drug possession, or the selling of marijuana. By signing this petition, you are acknowledging and agreeing that mass incarceration is an issue. This petition is calling for lower sentences for nonviolent offenses such as the ones listed above (selling marijuana, petty theft and drug possession). I thank you for your support.
