Help us save our preschool!

The Chapel Hill Coop Preschool (CHCP) is a private, non-profit daycare that has resided in Chapel Hill for over 60 years.  We are one of only four 5 Star NAEYC accredited preschools in CH and were the first fully integrated preschool in the South.

CHCP has purchased land off of Mt. Carmel Church Road to build a new site and thereby enable us to move out of the leased space that we've occupied since our inception. A year's worth of unanticipated administrative delays has put this project - and the future of our daycare itself - in serious jeopardy.  Put simply, our funding might run out.

We have requested the CH Town Planning Commission approve a 5 month extension to the site plan approval process.  After deferring a vote at their April 3rd meeting, they will decide the fate of the preschool on May 1.  Approval of the extension request will allow us to complete the other necessary approvals and begin building the new site. The Chapel Hill town staff and attorney have recommended that the planning commission approve this extension.

We, the parents and families of CHCP children, are asking for your help!  Tell the Chapel Hill Planning Commission to approve the extension so we can work with the town staff to finalize our plans and start building before we run out of funding.

If the extension is denied the future of CHCP is in jeopardy and a valuable community resource will disappear.
