Why this petition matters

The Royal charter law in Bedford, prevents anyone from holding an indoor or outdoor fayre or market/Car boot sale/table top sale of 5 or more stalls within 6 and 3 quarter miles as the crow flies from St Paul's Square in Bedford! Irrespective of what you sell or on what day, Bedford Charter market/Bedford Council enforce this law without taking anything into consideration! This law is apparently 1000 yrs old and holds no bearing on today's society and we feel it should be altered if not lifted so that small businesses like us can hold Craft fayres on private land with the permission of the land owner so to enable other small businesses to showcase their products without fear of reprimand and threats of being taken to court by our own council. With so many small businesses struggling and most cannot afford their own shops these small Craft fayres are vitally important not only to the stallholders  but to us all as a community as they bring people together in their local area and help these small businesses grow!

We need to stand together to get this outdated law changed, together we can make a change!
