Change Wisconsin Math Teaching Requirements.
Racine case high school had a popular freshman math teacher named Mr.Sorenson (Mr.S) who wasn’t able to pass the mathematics comprehensive exam that he needed to remain teaching and stay licensed. he said his scores were high in what he teaches but his difficulty learning high level content like Calculus. This seems unnecessary to teach low level math like the ones freshman learn ( algebra 1 and CP geometry).
The state of Wisconsin is letting its students down by not allowing passionate teachers like Mr. S. to continue teaching after showing proficiency in core content that he is teaching.
Mr. S has proposed an idea for licensing that separates two levels of teaching licenses in the state, one for lower level math classes and one for all math classes for those who excel. This allows students to continue to get the best teaching available regardless on the totality of their knowledge outside if their teaching content.
please support teachers like Mr. S and help students get the best teachers in schools with them! reach out to state representatives and Department of Public instruction and make your thoughts known!
