Why this petition matters

Started by Sargam Raina

Dear Ma'am/Sir,

Am a student myself and i have noticed since nursery grade that every educational textbook uses words such as MAN and MANKIND to represent HUMANS.

This is not a case of feminism but equity and equality amongst all the genders.
Humans are NOT just men or males, there are females and transgender people too. Representing the whole species of Homo sapiens as one gender is not fair to others. This creates a sub-conscious male dominance in our vocabulary and literature. Also it is not the right teaching for children as it is taught to us since a very young age. Even the govt. affiliated books NCERT uses such terms.

This is a biased and discriminating way of representing or describing the whole species of Humans. This represents the early backward and male dominated mindset which is still carried forward by society.

Why are artificial things called MAN-MADE? Are there no female or transgender workers, researchers or scientists in the field of science?

Instead words like HUMANITY and HUMANS should be used while shedding knowledge in textbooks rather any other source of wisdom.

This may seem like a minor petition but it would bring a big change in social mindsets and literature culture. It would inculcate the core value of EQUITY in young minds which is beneficial for growth of the nation as a whole.

I would like the Head of Ministry of Education to take the due actions needed as soon as possible.

Thank you

Regards Sargam Raina
