Why this petition matters

Started by JUliet B

I used to work in a care home and now work for the NHS. I’m what you call old school; hard working, never sick and never expect something for nothing.

I am tired of covering 60 hour weeks because a colleague can’t go over 24 hours or it will affect their Universal Credit. Colleagues half my age. Colleagues better off financially.

The system needs to change before this country reaches a place of no return. No-one should get something for nothing, especially when there is a national shortage of workers. Anyone in receipt of Universal Credit/ unemployment benefit, and are fit and able, should be required to work a full time week like the rest of us whether it’s for local government or community volunteer work.

This one simple change would be the start of a better Britain all round; it would improve unemployment rates as people would once again realise the value to mind, body and soul of a days work. Mental health would improve as less people would be sat at home depressed and isolated. The economy would boom because businesses have enough workers.

The UK’s national debt was £2,382.8 billion at the end of 2021 and yet the government currently spend around 32 billion a year on Universal Credit alone. Imagine how quickly the debt could be repaid if the UK stopped being a nanny state. The more hand outs, the more people want. ENOUGH
