Change the name of Macquarie St Hobart

Change the name of Macquarie St Hobart
Why this petition matters
My 6 year old daughter Rosie has had a great idea - to change the name of Macquarie St to an Aboriginal name - her suggestion is kunanyi St, but she thinks the Aboriginal community should decide.
She has been working hard all week putting together posters and sign up sheets to send to Hobart City Council. With the help of her older sibling, she has been outside getting signatures on her paper forms all day, so I’ve helped her out by setting up an online version of her petition! So proud of her activist heart!
This is the information from the poster she made.
We want to change the name of Macquarie St.
Why?
Lachlan Macquarie was responsible for the death of many Aboriginal people.
Who?
Lachlan Macquarie was the governor of NSW from 1810-1821. In 1816 Macquarie ordered soldiers to kill or capture any Aboriginal people they encountered during a military operation aimed at creating ‘terror’. At least 14 men, women and children were brutally killed. Source: Nov 10 2017 ABC News Fact Check
