This is a petition to request the name change of Lynch Family Skate Park. We all know that it can be simply defended as being a family name, but the word itself has a cruel and haunting past. The term and act of "lynching" derives from the name of Charles Lynch (1736-96), a Virginian militia officer that lead executions with mob violence during the American Revolution. Though we are grateful for the Lynch Foundation's contribution to the skate community, words like "lynch" should not be engraved anywhere in our country for our children to see, especially at a public park. We want to change the name. We do not want to be surrounded by traumatizing language. Thank you.
