Why this petition matters

The dress code prevents students from being able to be comfortable and confident while learning. Bodies are not distractions and enforcing the dress code as it is, is punishing innocent people for something that is not their fault. It is more important to teach all Lynn Public Schools students about sexual assault, consent, and respect so that they may be prepared to work in the real world. Also, there is no reason to ban head coverings such as durags and bonnets. They hold cultural significance in the Black community and Black students deserve to be comfortable in school.

I understand and agree that their must be some restraint regarding what students can wear. Private areas of the body should always be covered and clothing with disrespectful text or images on it should be prohibited. However, Lynn Public Schools needs to reconsider the dress code policy and use a diverse range of student input.
