Why this petition matters

Did you know that It is estimated that California currently has a home deficit amounting to 3.5 million, and true to supply and demand, as the demand continues to soar past the supply of housing, prices too will continue to rise”?  As a result, This demonstrates that Bay Area Rent increases greatly from 2010 to 2017 which is impacting many people sufficiently. This significant because the increase in our houses is impacting the low class and middle-class communities to be the risk of losing their homes. We want the people of the Bay Area and the rest of California to be aware of the issue we are facing that affects many Californians.

Housing in Emeryville/Oakland is one of the top 10 most expensive cities to live in. In the Bay Area the article says  “Average rents there are more than $2,600 per month (which is probably why one out of every five millennial are still living with their parents).” The increasing amount of money in rent is becoming more impossible to buy or stay in a house which is causing homelessness, etc. Adults have to work extra hard like 40 hours or more a week in order to pay for a two-bedroom apartment which technically means they have to work extra to pay the rent. Adults also has to work more than one job and have a roommate in order to live in homes and apartments.
