Why this petition matters

Right now in America, there is a federal regulation that when overpayment of SNAP is made to a person or household, even if the household updated income as required, and the administration of the department of human services is ADMITTEDLY AT FAULT for not entering income changes into their system, the person receiving the SNAP benefits is STILL held responsible for any over payment incurred.

This means that people who need help, and update income and report changes AS REQUIRED by law, are still getting taken advantage of by our federal government. This “regulation” is unacceptable and it needs to be changed. This is not how American citizens struggling just to buy food should be treated, especially when following all rules & regulations for notifying their state of life changes.

Let’s change this regulation that completely contradicts the purpose of even applying for aid when it’s needed.
If we don’t speak up on this issue, those living in poverty, struggling to buy food or pay the bills will continue to be taken for all they have by the American federal government.
