Not many people agree with school dress code. In fact the current dress code need updating. The dress code at our school is no shorts and rips above the knee, no unnatural colored hair, and not cropped shirts. But do we really need these rules? The answer is no. I understand that the school might think that other students might get distracted and that they’re trying to tech us to dress for success and learn to “cover up” so students don’t get sexually abused. But none of the students are gonna look at a student and think, “wow she’s wearing shorts. I’m gonna think about her all day and not be able to think about my work.” In fact, it’s not the students that get distracted, it’s the teachers. In fact, some students don’t even realize that their shirt is too short, or they have rips above the knee, the teachers do, which is kinda strange. All dress code is telling girl students is that men are pigs, their bodies are objects, and that when they show skin every guy is going to look at her wrong. Not only is that bad but it really isn’t true. Also more and more companies are starting to be less strict with their dress code. And about being sexually abused, I’ve done some research about what goes on inside of the mind of a rapist. They don’t choose their victims by what their wearing, they take people by how vulnerable they are. It’s also too hot to wear pants right now in Texas. Some poor kids going to get too hot just because of the dress code saying they have to wear pants. School dress code is just plain wrong. It’s unconstitutional and goes against the students freedom of speech. Lastly, schools dress code is mostly targeted towards girls which is really unfair. I also still don’t understand why we can’t wear hats. Even hats where everyone can see our face. Dress code should really just be that the students are wearing nothing inappropriate and shorts and shirts that aren’t too short. Please change the dress code, it just isn’t right.
