CHANGE THE CHERRY HILL EAST / WEST GAME TO NIGHT DATE RATHER THAN A RANDOM WEEKEND MORNING DAY !

Edit: Not sure why it’s recommending you to donate money but just looking for you to sign your name. However if you donate money it will go towards the team, renting lights, renting field or towards referees if you were wondering.

I know a lot is written in this but in the beginning I will explain the issue and in THE LAST PARAGRAPH  I will list a few possibilities we can do to SOLVE THE PROBLEM! 

 Growing up this was the game that had left so many memories. Personally I had played football for the Cherry Hill Youth Football League and after practice before our game the next day we would all look forward to going to the West/East game. We would play a tackle pick up game right next to the bleacher even when we knew all the coaches would scream at us when they found out. The reason for this was because we just wanted to pretend we were in that moment the players were living years ago at night hearing the crowd section shouting in excitement. Imagine dreaming of being under those lights all of your youth up to now just to hear you will be playing on a Saturday morning for little to no good reason. We as an overall team do not care what NIGHT date we play this game on but a Saturday or Sunday AM is just totally unacceptable. 

This game had brought all local families, friends, and alumni together and watched the most important game of the year! I do not recall any other event that had brought a town together like this did. When Covid-19 hit, not playing this game at a reasonable date was acceptable due to the tough time we had been living in. However, it’s time to all come back together stronger than ever and get this game popping in a few months! Not everyone has experienced this indescribable event and I do truly feel bad for them. HOWEVER, WE AS CHERRY HILL WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO CHANGE THIS TO A NIGHT GAME THAT WE LOVE AND HAD ENJOYED LITERALLY EVERY YEAR AFTER THE THANKSGIVING DATE.

For a moment let’s stop talking about the football aspect part. MONEY! A few years back the game took place on a Saturday and the money raised was NOWHERE NEAR every other year it took place under the Wednesday/Thursday/Friday night lights. You are losing money from admission, concession stands, and so much more. We do not give enough credit to the Band Students and the enjoyment they bring to everyone in attendance. They thought it just wouldn’t be as enjoyable and less exciting. The band is thought to be one of the most important parts of this event and to not have them as excited is definitely a huge disappointment. I had asked tons of students in Cherry Hill West if they would still attend the rivalry game if it took place on a Saturday morning and you want to know their answer? “Probably not sorry, it's just not as fun.” Although I had not asked any of the cheer team I would assume the same would apply. 

There are many things that have changed in years past with this game including eliminating the thanksgiving date game however all this change has to stop. The thanksgiving date change would be highly unlikely to have a comeback for good reasons. However, a Afternoon/night Lights for this rivalry game should be with no discussion played. Change is good in many instances but this year it is just completely unacceptable and has no reasoning behind it besides want. In years past the rivalry game would take place at the Cherry Hill West Stadium and the home team would switch back and forth every other year. This would allow when east is “home” to have the home sideline and the larger bleacher section. West students, parents and players didn’t care about this and still don’t so why change it?! East students and players do not get to experience the home night game experience ever so why take this away from them? This was a once in every two year thing and now you try to give them another Saturday morning game? Lol no. 

 

 

SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO PREVENT THE GAME FROM BEING ON A SATURDAY MORNING?!

We can do multiple things: One is play the game at West any NIGHT Monday-Sunday. If both sides do not agree on that we could rent another high schools field that is away that week and play there. Another option is to rent lights for east whatever day of choosing and play that night. There are unlimited options with many people behind them so let’s fix this issue!

WE WILL NOT STOP COMPLAINING UNTIL SOMETHING CHANGES! TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN POWER, WE CARE AND WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR ANY MORE EXCUSES.
