The name American Shepherd is more descriptive and accurate of the breed's true purpose - to serve as a versatile working dog. We believe this change will further promote the Australian Shepherd's reputation as a reliable and versatile dog, and help to further distinguish it from other working dog breeds.

I believe that this change would be beneficial to the breed as a whole and would help to improve its image.

If we can't change the Australian Shepherd's name to the American Shepherd, the dog will still be registered with the Australian Shepherd Registry. However, the dog will have the American Shepherd name listed on its identification documents. The breed of dog will be split in two, with two different breed registries. This will cause a lot of confusion for dog owners, and the reputation of both breeds will be hurt. We hope that we can change the name to the American Shepherd.
