The Issue

Completing 8th grade is a milestone that many of us have been looking forward to. Our class day field trip is supposed to be a day of celebration, but there's a problem: it's currently scheduled for May 14th, the day after our awards day. Most people are exempt from most of their exams, meaning they do not plan to attend any school days after class day. In the past, class day happens before awards day, and it's really disappointing and unfair that our grade is the only grade that is going to have it after. We aren't just celebrating the end of middle school but embarking on a new journey.
Many students have expressed their unwillingness to attend the trip on the 14th, which poses a significant issue: the school is risking the waste of valuable resources. If students don't attend, additional costs for activities and staffing may be spent unnecessarily. Furthermore, our t-shirts that mark the year we are graduating won't sell, as students are unlikely to invest in merchandise for an event they're not attending. This results in a loss in potential revenue that could support future school programs.
A simple switch to May 11th can resolve these issues. More students have confirmed their wishes to have class day on the 11th, ensuring that our day will be full of joy and participation. Going to Spinners on May 11th not only aligns the trip with student availability but also maintains the longstanding tradition of holding the field trip before awards day. It's a win-win for students and the school.
We urge the school administration to consider the voices of its students. By moving the class day to May 11th, we can ensure widespread participation and preserve this special experience. Help us make this essential change by signing our petition.
