The Issue

Our family has quickly come to cherish our home on Monck Road since moving here in December. We loved the idea of raising our children in a community where kids could play outside, ride their bikes, and safely wait for the school bus. But in the short time we have lived here, that sense of safety has been replaced with fear.

We have called the OPP countless times about drivers speeding, swerving through traffic, and blowing past our children’s bus stop right at the end of our driveway. We have begged for help. We have pleaded for reduced speed limits, warning signs, and traffic enforcement before something terrible happened.

On May 19th, that tragedy became our reality.

Our beloved dog, Chunk, was killed in front of our home by a reckless driver who crossed into the other lane trying to pass traffic because the speed limit “wasn’t fast enough.” Chunk was not just a dog — he was family. He was our children’s best friend, our baby’s protector, Ryan’s emotional support, and the heart of our home. Our house feels empty without him.

This loss has shattered us in ways words cannot fully explain.

Last summer, our family nearly lost Ryan after he was violently stabbed and developed a life-threatening flesh-eating infection. We spent months fighting through surgeries, trauma, fear, and uncertainty, praying our children would not lose their father. We are still healing from that pain.

Now, less than a year later, we are grieving another devastating loss.

Our hearts cannot handle another tragedy.

What happened to Chunk was preventable. And our greatest fear is that next time, it won’t be our dog — it will be a child waiting for the school bus.

This stretch of Monck Road includes a school bus stop where children stand every single day. Drivers speed through here constantly. Lowering speed limits saves lives. Slower speeds give drivers more time to react, increase visibility, and dramatically reduce the severity of collisions.

Other Ontario communities have taken action after preventable tragedies. We are asking Simcoe County and local officials to do the same before another family experiences unbearable heartbreak.

We cannot change what happened to Chunk. But we can fight to make sure his death was not in vain.

Please sign this petition to help bring safer roads, lower speed limits, and accountability to Monck Road — for Chunk, for our children, and for every family who deserves to feel safe in their own community.

Help us make a change for Chunk. 🐾
