South Beloit High School has recently changed their school rules. Dress code has become even harder to manage. Students have already been dress coded on the first day, many for minor reasons. A student brand new to the district even being dress coded twice, second outfit showing a sliver of mid-drift.

      New phone rules have been put out where no student can be on the phone at any time, not even to text parent or guardian. New airpod, earbud, and headphone rules have been put out that no person shall be using these devices at any moment, even though it’s been proven many times that music can improve motivation, concentration, behavioral tendencies, and many more benefits crucial for a good learning environment.

        Lastly, the change that was most shocking to students was the change with tardiness. If a student gets ONE TARDY, a meeting amongst the principal and parent must be put in place, or consequence is a temporary suspension. Dozens of students at South Beloit have stated, “I’m just ready to go home. They make me wanna leave.”
     
      South Beloit we’re not asking for much. We’re asking for an environment we enjoy and feel safe in. Limiting phone and earbud usage when teachers are talking is understandable and necessary, but no technology at all is not. And the dress code you have given has made many young students feel bad within themselves.
