Change Qld legislation - Justice for victims of unlicensed drivers who kill or injure

Our mother was killed in a motor vehicle accident, which the Coroner found was caused by a disqualified driver who crossed double white lines, while putting on his seatbelt and checking his text messages - a multiple offender who received a fine and an additional driving disqualification.
This was obviously no deterrent as he was caught within weeks driving while suspended and again simply received a fine.
The current Queensland legislation needs to be changed to mirror legislation in other states so that unlicensed/suspended driving causing death or injury results in a custodial sentence.
Numerous global university studies have shown unlicensed/disqualified drivers are more likely to cause death or serious injury as a result of accidents they cause, making them deadly. A very sobering thought, as there are lots of them on the roads.
The death of a person in a car accident or in other violent circumstances, is a tragedy and has significant ramifications and ongoing impact, not only to the family but also to the community including the Police, emergency services and medical resources.
We have uniform consumer credit codes across Australia, surely now is the time to introduce uniform motor vehicle legislation as well.
Your support to have the Queensland legislation amended to mirror other states and make Queensland roads safer by removing these dangerous drivers from our roads, is sought.
